Frequently asked questions
Seattle Sperm Bank
How long does shipping take?
It is recommended that you arrange shipping approximately one or two weeks before the actual insemination/fertilization procedure. We advise that the vial arrives at the treating clinic at least 2-3 days before the procedure. Vials get shipped with an overnight express courier for prompt delivery. It is also important for you to arrange the receipt of the SSB vials with the receiving clinic to ensure that they are aware of the shipment’s arrival.
How many vials should I purchase?
Generally, the success rate of IUI treatment can fall between 15% - 25%. Therefore, one can expect approximately 1 to 4 IUI procedures before achieving a pregnancy. One SSB vial is sufficient for an IUI procedure; depending on your physician’s recommendation, a maximum of 2 vials may be used per IUI procedure.
Seattle donor vials are limited and sell fast. If you are strongly considering using the same sperm donor for consecutive procedures or for a sibling, we recommend purchasing more vials to secure the use of the donor. Patient can purchase at least 4 vials for one pregnancy space.
What is the cost per Seattle Vial?
Seattle sperm donors are comprehensively screened, which include extended
genetic panel carrier testing, counselling, criminal background checks, record verification. The sperm vials from Seattle donors are imported from the USA and are IUI-ready! Seattle donors are Open-ID or Known donors. Subsequently, these donor vials are substantially more expensive than anonymous, local donors. If you are interested in one of our international donors, you are welcome to enquire with the Wijnland sperm bank hub regarding the cost involved. You can expect a cost of approximately R12 000 per sperm vial.
What is an Open-ID or Known donor?
Seattle sperm donors sign up to have at least one contact opportunity/interaction with the child after the legal age of 18, which needs to be requested by the child. After the first introduction, the donor has no further obligation to a long-term relationship with the child. The donor and child may arrange to have further communication if both parties agree. Prospective and active recipients are not at liberty to know the identity of the donor or contact them. It is important to note that the Recipient identification is kept anonymous from sperm donors.
What does the Seattle donor screening include?
All Seattle sperm bank donors are genetically screened by undergoing the Myriad’s Foresight Panel test, which includes 102-175 conditions. For further information regarding the specific conditions tested for and other donor screening and testing, please visit the Settle Sperm Bank page: https://www.seattlespermbank.com/donor-testing-and-screening/
